Bobrovsky Shuts Out Oilers Verhaeghe Scores Goal

Florida Panthers Strike First in Stanley Cup Final with 3-0 Win

Bobrovsky Shuts Out Oilers, Verhaeghe Scores Goal

Series Shifts to Edmonton for Game 2

The Florida Panthers took an early lead in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, defeating the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 in Game 1. Carter Verhaeghe scored the lone goal of the game for the Panthers, while Sergei Bobrovsky made 32 saves for the shutout.

The Oilers, who were making their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 2006, struggled to generate offense against the Panthers' stingy defense. Connor McDavid was held without a point, and Leon Draisaitl managed just two shots on goal.

The Panthers, meanwhile, were opportunistic on their chances. Verhaeghe scored his goal on a rebound off a shot by Aleksander Barkov, and Sam Bennett and Anthony Duclair added empty-net goals in the final minutes.

Game 2 of the series will take place in Edmonton on Saturday night. The Oilers will be looking to even the series, while the Panthers will be trying to take a 2-0 lead.
